So…my Soc class has come to be my least favorite class. Mostly because of the teacher. No, she doesn’t dish America and Europe like most of my teachers…she just doesn’t seem like she understands what she’s talking about. Here’s a little glimpse into my class - just from today.
We were finally given the topics each of us are to present, and when it came my turn she said I was to present on ethnicity, race and society in America (I’m the only American in the class) so I was pretty cool with that. Then she added “And also present on the Armenians’ too, because it’s obviously so similar to America.” Wait. Stop a min. will you? My brain was jumping back and forth, back and forth, to find the similarities. My good friend Gudrun from Germany looked as surprised as I was and then grinned and leaned over to me and said sarcastically, “Oh well, if it’s that obvious is shouldn’t be hard, right? No worries!” Thanks a lot, Gudrun. :P
At one point in the class the teacher was talking about two authors and wrote their names on the board. Noticing that they both had the same last name she paused and said, “hum…they must be cousins.” And continued on. I will refrain from commenting on that.
And my favorite remark from my teacher today was “The State is a thing.” At this point my friend Nisha (from Canada) and I just looked at each other, to the teacher, and back to each other. “Did she just-?” “Yeah I think so-“ “That the state is a thing???” “Naturally.”
