Bienvenue vers la France!

*Ahem* so I had a hunch that I needed to write a new blog entry about my life in France (this of course had nothing at all to do with my sister’s email that said “New blog entry! new Blog entry! new blog Entry!”) hehehe
Well let’s see, I’ve gotten to know Angers pretty well. It’s a very beautiful city! There’s an old castle, cathedral, opera house and some other cool looking churches just for starters. There’s a river which runs through the city that you can see from my kitchen window. When it gets nice and warm I really want to take a kayak out on it! J I have 3 roommates, two French girls and a guy from England. The two French girls go to a different university in Angers and James works at the hospital here in Angers. The two French girls don’t really know English so that encourages me to learn French faster lol One of my classmates rents a room in this really cool super old French house. The house has a huge old wardrobe that reminded me of Narnia. We were both sorely tempted to take a peek inside but figured that would be rude lol The second night that I was here I saw from my kitchen window what looked like a performance in one of the buildings near mine. I didn’t know what exactly it was, or if you need a ticket but I put on my coat and wandered over there. Turns out it was a performance from the Angers orchestra and choir and it was free. It had already been going on for a little while before I got there, and I stayed there for 2 hours and when I left they were still performing! But it was very pretty and relaxing.

My classes are set up on the French system, which I’m sure you all know about by now lol The class schedule changes every week. You could have 10 hours of class time one week, and 45 hours the next, but you don’t know til the Friday before that week. I have a European economics class, and most of you know I don’t like economics, but I really like this professor so I might end up *gasp* enjoying the class. My university in France is the best business university in France. Another thing about them is you don’t have the same professor for one class. In each class you have anywhere from 2-8 professors. They each teach a certain amount of hours, grade whatever presentation or paper or homework that was due during their section, and then you have a new professor for that same class. It’s annoying in the way that you can’t get used to a professor’s grading habits but it’s nice if you don’t like the professor. Lol My IR professor taught for the first 15 hours of class and now we don’t see him again until the first two weeks in May which is fine because I didn’t really like him. It’s hard to plan trips this way but I think it worries me more because I know certain weeks are coming that are going to be crazy intense but I don’t know which weeks those are.
I’ve been to Paris twice now. Still haven’t seen the Eiffel tower lol it just means I’ll have to go back at least a third time! ;) There’s a train station in Angers and you can take that and it’s an hour and a half train ride that takes you straight to the middle of Paris. A group of us went to Disneyland in Paris last weekend which was a ton of fun!! Pictures are up on fb of Angers and Disneyland.

I’ve had some amazing chocolate croissants! Still haven’t tried the almond ones yet, Mom, but I will! J Last night I had some angel food cake with raspberries so I was a very happy little student. We don’t have ovens in our kitchens but we have a stove and two microwaves. They’ve now fixed our stove so that only one of them blows the lights when we turn it on. Lol So we just use the other three and don’t touch that one. Let’s see…there’s wine and cheese everywhere! No surprise there! Lol I was told how crazy the French drivers are, even by the girl who picked me up and she’s French, but after living in Turkey they seem like really good drivers to me. I don’t see what the big deal is, they stay on their side of the road and seem to obey the road signs as a whole. Plus if you make eye contact with them, they’ll let you cross the road.
There’s lots of protests here but that’s no big difference from Turkey, only here they don’t get arrested for protesting, or at least I haven’t seen anyone get arrested. In all, France seems very similar to America to me. Like they have real ice cream!! Hehe The first week I was here I was like “wow, they have this!” and “Wow, they have that!” Tiff pointed out that if I’d gone from America to France first, I’d probably have noticed all the differences, but since I went from Turkey to France, I’m noticing all the similarities. I really like France (then again I really liked Turkey too just in a different way lol) I love that I can just wander about and sit in any of the city gardens or even the castle gardens if I want or wander down to the river anytime I want.
